Before the release of the Google Nexus 7 Tablet PC we discussed its full advantage and disadvantages. Perhaps the main argument by critics about device – a lack of support for memory cards, but the reason Nexus 7 was left without a memory card slot is very complicated.
Dan Morrill, an Android – engineer at Google, said on this subject:
“We are tired of watching, as manufacturers provide a large amount of memory for media at the time, as users do not have enough space to store applications and data. Our approach is to combine all in one, which is much more convenient.”
Google Nexus 7 tablet uses the file system type ext (Extended File System) instead of a combination of ext and FAT (File Allocation Table). A new method is faster and safer to work with data stored on the Nexus 7 tablet especially of a personal nature. A journaling file system reduces the number of system errors and keep its integrity in case of trouble.
Another advantage is that the even if you connect it to the host machine (connect to your computer / notebook), it will not change the file system, since it does not block access to files. Sometime you will get a notification for debugging your memory card using a proxy Filesystem in Userspace (FUSE) but in this case you don’t have to face this problem because of absence of a memory card. This means that you can avoid errors due to incorrect debugging of the tablet and will be able to maintain access to all data, even when connected to a computer.
Of course, Google is not a charitable organization and one of the reasons for refusal of an SD-card – a popularization of cloud services (Google Drive). But you’re still free to use third-party cloud services if you want, such as, Dropbox.
So after all this, don’t get upset about the missing memory card slot in Google Nexus 7 tablet.
