Canon EOS 700D: Specs, Features and Price [Review]

The EOS 700D is Canon’s flagship device in the entry-level DSLR range and is also an upgrade of the EOS 650D. Well, in this device, Canon, for the very first time has packed the new EF-S 18-55 IS STM lens and other enhancements include redesigned mode dial, sturdier build, higher Live View refresh rate and preview for creative filters. The pros of this camera are its lightweight body, good noise control, responsive touchscreen, quality video and sound capture. Other details are discussed below.

Design

This is one among the light-weight DSLR cameras Canon has and is built with a petite frame and compact body that fits into small bags easily. It is fabricated with polycarbonate resin and glass fibre mounted on stainless steel. It weighs less than 750 g with the stock lens attached.

The controls are placed in a position where they are easily accessible and the card slot placed on the side enables you to easily swap the card out. The Aperture, Mode Dial, ISO Button, shutter button and Shutter control dial are situated on the grip. Nearby the hot shoe, placed at the top, the built-in stereo microphones and the pop-up flash are placed.

Display

The device is built with a big 3-inch Vari angle 3:2 Clear View II TFT LCD display with approximately 1040K dots. It is provided with a dedicated button with which you can shut off the LCD and also switch it as the viewfinder.

Shooting

The EOS 700D is facilitated with an 18.2 MP APS-C sensor, 9-point autofocus, 5fps continuous shooting and DIGIG 5 processor. It has the ability to capture videos at full HD resolutions along with stereo microphones.

A three-positioned toggle on-off button is also granted on the grip to switches off and switch on the power while it also enables you to take on the video mode too. You can shoot with quiet and continuous autofocus with the stepping motor technology and the stereo microphones never captures the boring sound of the AF motor.

You have got many Mode dials such as Portrait (P), M (Full Manual), SCN (Scene), Macro, High Speed Sports, Landscape, Portrait, Tv (Shutter Priority), Av (Aperture Priority), Full Auto (A+), CA and a No Flash Mode with no flash firing.

Above all, it features a wireless flash trigger that is useful for a photographer who needs an external flash. At the same time, the device’s inbuilt flash is capable of syncing in modes like 1st curtain and 2nd curtain.

Performance

The camera performs well while shooting in handheld circumstances at night and saves both JPEG and RAW images. Its lens can focus on the objects that are as close as 25 cms and is image stabilized and hence gives you proper control while shooting in any mode.

The image quality is also impressive as you get the low light images shot between an ISO 800 and ISO 1600 range. It is good both indoors and outdoors and the prime lens enables you to get your shots with the lights getting displayed like stars.

Verdict

In fact, the Canon EOS 700D is an amazing device, but it has some cons like the viewfinder being not so bright and not being such a big upgrade. It comes with a pricetag of Rs. 53,995 (body only), Rs. 59,995 (body and 18-55 Lens) and Rs. 39,995 (prime 28 mm f/1.8 Lens).
